Spela petrics work skotopoisesis picks apart how human-centered principles guide the production of scientific knowledge, while also co-founding perceived divides between human and non-human agents. She works with the aspect of ‘plant human inter-cognition’. It is a two-part video that draws from the legacies of feminist body art practices. What would happen if scientific knowledge guided human-centered principles instead? Would the process of inter cognition play out in a more organic format of existing within the ecosystem, or would it be a calculated basis based on human-centered intervention yet again? It was interesting to see this explored using performance art and video, to highlight and obscure the distinction between both. She makes the waste of such nutrient-rich and perfectly edible vegetation, that the artists suggest viewers consume it. The alternative way is to build out the plants in a manner where human beings are not able to consume, intervene or disrupt nature.
